The Seventh Day Atticus Finch Church

I avoid like the plague the discussion of god with most people. Always have, even as a kid. I can recall being on the playground as a child, or in my neighborhood, and being asked "The question". You know the one..."Are you saved?" Well maybe you don't, maybe this was worse due to my placement in the biblical fashion accesory, who knows?
Being the brilliant bullshitter i was even at eight, i replied with an aggressive affirmative. The "Are you saved?" question was always followed up immediately with the "What church do you go to?" question. To which the brilliant bullshitter who was fast becoming an expert on churches would reply "The seventh day Atticus Finch".
As a heart attack.

My vision of Gregory Peck as god, or rather his character Atticus Finch from "To Kill a Mockingbird", must still be with me on a level, or i'd have to be an atheist. Save for Atticus, Joan of Arc, Kahlil Gibran, and a handfull of others i suspect i would be. An Atheist.
Truly, as i look around i see people doing good works in the name of...doing good works. This is enough, full and plenty. What keeps me from commiting a mutitude of "Sins" if i do not believe in hell and damnation? Uh, because it's wrong, it harms myself and others. First do no harm.
Now rephrased: What keeps me helping others if i do not believe in heaven and eternal salvation? Come on, because it's the right thing to do. Right is right. Wrong is wrong.

Blessed be the name of Atticus Finch. Amen.
