Memories of The Circle 4 Ranch

My dad was, well he was a T.V. Cowboy. Stop laughing already! This was a lifetime ago, but in the 50's and 60's television was still in it's infancy. Everything was still done live right in the studio, and dad's show was no exception.
He directed, wrote, produced, and starred in, a children's television show called "The Foreman Scotty Show". He was the "Foreman" of a ranch called the circle 4, named as such due to the station he aired on, channel 4. Hysterical, but everyone loved it. If you were a kid during that era, you had either been on or knew someone who had been on the Foreman Scotty Show.
He taught values like helping others, and being a friend. He was the first to desegregate childrens programming locally, because he had absolute creative control of the show. When the station manager said you can't sit a "Colored" child next to a white child, he replied "Watch me", and they did.

The show ran for 20 years straight before he pulled it as a direct result of changes in FCC rules and regulations, and Vietnam. Vietnam? Yes Vietnam. Foreman Scotty used guns in the adventure segments, shooting at the 'bad guys' and visa versa. Anyone old enough to remember the images that came pouring out of our televisions every night of what was happening in Vietnam, knows exactly what I'm saying here.
Dad had to make some tough decisions about what was best for the children watching his show. So rather than jeopardize the integrity of the show, he chose to pull it.
They showed it in reruns for awhile, but video tape was so expensive then, most of the tape was reused. Theres very little footage left of the show.

So yeah, that was my dad. I've avoided making the correlation between he and i out of respect.
I don't know what that means, dad always supported anything i wanted to do or be. He was always so proud of his kids. Had he been alive when DHS took my children, well had he been alive they wouldn't have taken them, end of story.

I've had a dream for a long time of using my dads name to help people, people who otherwise have no where else to turn. Maybe I'm crazy, but if i could impact lives in one tenth of the way my dad did...man, that would make me SMILE.
